September LGBT Events in Ft. Lauderdale


On this Blog, I will post a highlight of some of the LGBT non-profit and political events that are going on in Ft. Lauderdale each month, so folks who want to attend can put them on their Calendars. 

Monday, September 2 – North Broward Democratic Club Labor Day Picnic – 1:00pm. Pompano Community Park, 1001 N. Federal Hwy, Pompano Beach, FL. We are looking forward to see you Labor Day, Monday Sept 2nd Democratic Elected Officials and Candidates will be attending and will be given the opportunity to speak.  This is a free event but we ask that you please bring a dish to share some savory and some sweet. Thursday, September 5 – Join Stonewall's NEW Collections Committee and Make History – 7:00pm. Stonewall National Museum and Archives 1300 East Sunrise Boulevard, Fort Lauderdale FL 33304. SNMA is seeking volunteers to work on growing the collection of museum artifacts and archives documents. Help tell our story by collecting LGBTQ history from our past as it quickly unfolds into our future. The Committee will target specific historic objects representing individuals and movements pivotal to the advancement of the LGBTQ civil rights movement. Volunteers will learn about Museum collecting, preservation, interpretation, care and display of important artifacts and documents. Saturday, September 7 – VIP Smart Ride Benefit 8:00pm.  Please join us and become an official Village Pub VIP. We are planning a night full of food, spirits, music and most of all fun. Music by Jason Gonzales. The party will continue at The Village Pub (1 block walk) following. Monday, September 9 – Stonewall National Museum and Archives New Exhibit Opening – 6:00pm – 8:00pm. Stonewall National Museum & Archives, 1300 E. Sunrise Blvd., Fort Lauderdale, FL 33304. THE BIG PICTURE, Gay Movie Posters from 1953-1978 and COLOR CODING GAYS, Visible Signs for Invisible People.  Opening Night receptions are for individuals who donate are annual $250+ donors to SNMA.  If you are interested in attending, please email David Jobin at david.jobin@stonewallnationalmuseum.org or call 954-763-8565 to be added to the guest list.  There is no commitment to become a donor, just a chance to meet supporters and learn more about Stonewall Museum.  The exhibits both run through November 3.

Wednesday, September 11 – GFLGLCC - MetLife Quarterly Networking Luncheon– 11:30am. Da Campo Osteria, 3333 NE 32nd Ave., Fort Lauderdale, FL.  Please join us for our GFLGLCC - MetLife Quarterly Networking Luncheon. Wednesday, September 18 – The Equality Garden Club – The Equality Park Garden Club meets every 3rd Wednesday of the month except December.  It is a Gay and straight friendly garden club with a variety of plant related events.  Meetings include a guest speaker with a horticultural topic, plant exchange, raffle table, and refreshments. Saturday, November 9 - National Gay and Lesbian Task Force Miami Recognition Dinner. – 6:30pm - Midnight. The Miami Recognition Dinner is an important South Florida tradition. It not only allows the LGBT community and its supporters to celebrate our heroes, it also provides a vital source of funding for the community on the local and national levels. The 17th Annual Miami Recognition Dinner, will return to the spectacular Sparkle Ballroom of the Fontainebleau Miami Beach. The evening features two cocktail receptions (one for VIP guests), a sit-down dinner, a silent auction, an awards ceremony, and dancing. http://www.miamirecognitiondinner.org/

Lauderdale each month, so folks who want to attend can put them on their Calendars. With that in mind, here are the events I want to highlight for March 2013: March Events: Friday, March 1 – Opening Reception for Stonewall National Museum & Archives Exhibit – 6:00pm – 8:00pm Stonewall National Museum & Archives,1300 East Sunrise Boulevard, Fort Lauderdale. Opening reception of photo essay by local media artist Kim Cohane featuring profiles of creative LGBTQ youth. Kim and many any artists depicted will be present.
