May 2014 LGBT Events in Ft. Lauderdale

On this Blog, I will post a highlight of some of the LGBT non-profit and political events that are going on in Ft. Lauderdale each month, so folks who want to attend can put them on their Calendars.

Thursday, May 1 – GLLN Luncheon 11:45pm – 1:15pm. Timpano Italian Chophouse, 450 E Las Olas Boulevard, Fort Lauderdale, FL 33301. Monthly luncheons are the first Thursday of every month. The mission for the Gay & Lesbian Lawyers Network is to provide a social network in which gay, lesbian and gay friendly lawyers can develop their practices through friendships, referral relationships and professional development. Our intention is to fully realize a true business and social network and to provide the opportunity to our participants to support one another in our practices, to promote ourselves within our firms, and to offer a helping hand to each other when needed. http://www.glln.org/events/

Friday, May 2 - Sunday May 11 – The Miami Gay & Lesbian Film Festival, a critically acclaimed event, is based in the world-renowned historic South Beach neighborhood with additional films screened at locations throughout Miami-Dade County. The 16th Miami Gay & Lesbian Film Festival will take place from. The Miami Gay & Lesbian Film Festival is committed to its mission: To inspire, entertain and educate the public, encourage a sense of community through international and culturally diverse film, video and other media that offer historical and contemporary perspectives on the gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender experience. The festival has grown from a 3-day event in which 25 films were presented to the current format of 10 days with 65+ films. The Miami Gay and Lesbian Film Festival is an internationally acclaimed event serving as a platform for numerous World Premiers, North American Premiers and East Coast Premiers. The Miami Gay and Lesbian Film Festival is the first MAJOR LGBT film festival to occur in the calendar year, setting the tone for the entire LGBT film festival season. http://www.mglff.com/

Tuesday, May 6 – Mack Power Lunch – 11:30am – 1:30pm at Beauty & The Feast @ The Atlantic Hotel. 601 N. Fort Lauderdale Beach Blvd., Ft. Lauderdale, FL. At the beginning of every Power Lunch we offer approx. 30 minutes to introduce yourself and chat with fellow attendees in a social setting. There may be a very brief presentation by an event sponsor to share insights and industry information. Thursday, May 8 – Ft. Lauderdale Chamber of Commerce Gay and Lesbian Business Xchange (GLBX) Business After Hours. – 5:30pm - 7:00pm. Curiosities Auction House, 1105 NE 13th Avenue, Fort Lauderdale, FL 33304. Broward County's premiere gay-friendly networking organization, maximizing our member’s business profitability. The GLBX Business After Hours receptions are a key element in creating and fostering these relationships. Friday, May 9 – SunServe Silver Serve Luncheon – 11:00am – 1:00pm. ArtServe, 1350 E. Sunrise Blvd. Fort Lauderdale, FL. SunServe is a model 501(c)(3) nonprofit social service agency serving the Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, and Questioning (LGBTQ) community in South Florida. We provide high quality, compassionate, and progressive care for all, including those in financial need, minorities, youth, seniors, families, and those with life-challenging physical or emotional conditions. Wednesday, May 21 – The Equality Garden Club – The Equality Park Garden Club meets every 3rd Wednesday of the month except December.  It is a Gay and straight friendly garden club with a variety of plant related events.  Meetings include a guest speaker with a horticultural topic, plant exchange, raffle table, and refreshments. Tuesday, May 27 – GFLGLCC Lunch, Learn & Network with Advocates for Surrogacy12:00pm - 1:00pm. Dapur, 1620 N Federal Hwy., Fort Lauderdale, FL. Join us on May 27th when we will take over the Bali Room at Dapur for an intimate lunch of not more than 25. We'll begin at Noon and end promptly at 1 PM. The official participants include galleries, eclectic stores, cafes, boutiques and upscale restaurants, which will host over 40 local artists. On this Blog, I will post a highlight of some of the LGBT non-profit and political Events that are going on in Ft. Lauderdale each month, so folks who want to attend can put them on their Calendars. With that in mind, here are the events I want to highlight for March 2013: March Events: Friday, March 1 – Opening Reception for Stonewall National Museum & Archives Exhibit – 6:00pm – 8:00pm Stonewall National Museum & Archives,1300 East Sunrise Boulevard, Fort Lauderdale. Opening reception of photo essay by local media artist Kim Cohane featuring profiles of creative LGBTQ youth. Kim and many any artists depicted will be present.
