On this Blog, I will post a highlight of some of the LGBT non-profit and political events that are going on in Ft. Lauderdale each month, so folks who want to attend can put them on their Calendars.
 

Wednesday, June 4 – ArtsUnited, We Do, Too – A photography show about Marriage Equality 5:30pm – 7:30pm. Gallery 6, Broward Main Library 100 S Andrews Avenue, Fort Lauderdale. A photography show about Marriage Equality featuring couples from Florida who were married out of state. Show runs through June 30th. Free and open to the public

Thursday, June 5 – GLLN Luncheon – 11:45pm – 1:15pm. Timpano Italian Chophouse, 450 E Las Olas Boulevard, Fort Lauderdale, FL 33301. Monthly luncheons are the first Thursday of every month. The mission for the Gay & Lesbian Lawyers Network is to provide a social network in which gay, lesbian and gay friendly lawyers can develop their practices through friendships, referral relationships and professional development. Our intention is to fully realize a true business and social network and to provide the opportunity to our participants to support one another in our practices, to promote ourselves within our firms, and to offer a helping hand to each other when needed. Thursday, June 5 – VIP Fundraising Reception Preceding “The Day It Snowed In Miami” film screening and panel discussion at the Gateway Theatre. – 5:00pm. Thursday, June 5 – “The Day It Snowed In Miami” Documentary Screening and Panel Discussion. 7:00 pm. The Classic Gateway Theatre, 1820 East Sunrise Boulevard, Fort Lauderdale, FL. The screening will serve as a fundraiser to benefit Stonewall National Museum & Archives and SAVE (formerly SAVE Dade). The fundraiser is presented with gratitude for resources and information SAVE and SNMA contributed to the making of the film. Tickets: $25 Advance $30 At The Door. Saturday, June 7 – The Pride Wind Ensemble will present "A Little Night Music" – 7:00pm. Amaturo Theatre of the Broward Center for the Performing Arts. Join us for this exciting concert as we explore "Music of the Night." From movie soundtracks to musicals, this concert will have the usual variety of music and visual elements that the Pride Wind Ensemble has become known for. Tuesday, June 10 – The Pride Center’s Founders Circle Reception – 6:00 – 8:00pm. B Ocean Hotel Fort Lauderdale, 999 North Fort Lauderdale Beach Boulevard, Fort Lauderdale, FL 33304. The Founder's Circle are individuals who make a monthly gift of $100 to the Pride Center. There is no commitment to become a Founder, just a chance to meet folks and hear about the great work the Pride Center is doing.

Thursday, June 12 – Annual Pride Art Show by ArtsUnited Members Reception 6:00pm – 8:00pm. Pride Center at Equality Park.2040 N. Dixie HWY, Main Floor,Wilton Manors, Florida 33305, ArtsUnited and its member celebrates the month of Pride with its annual members only show. The show features an array of work by ArtsUnited members. The show is being held at the Pride Center at Equality Park. From June 10th to June 28th. Prizes will be awarded for Best in Show and Best in Class. The event is free and open to the public. Refreshments will be served.

Friday, June 13 – SunServe Silver Serve Luncheon – 11:00am – 1:00pm. ArtServe, 1350 E. Sunrise Blvd. Fort Lauderdale, FL. Every Second Friday of the Month. SunServe is a model 501(c)(3) nonprofit social service agency serving the Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, and Questioning (LGBTQ) community in South Florida. We provide high quality, compassionate, and progressive care for all, including those in financial need, minorities, youth, seniors, families, and those with life-challenging physical or emotional conditions. Friday, June 13 – Sunday, June 15  – Little House on the Ferry, benefitting Stonewall Pride – 6:00pm – 8:00pm (2:00pm Sunday Matanee). Broward Center, 201 SW Fifth Avenue, Fort Lauderdale, Florida. At the beach resort of Fire Island Pines, Randall's 30th birthday turns into a weekend of self-discovery and change when marriage equality becomes law in New York State and he is caught in a love triangle. One choice is Randall's lover Timothy, the New York tax attorney, who is caught by surprise when the law passes and is reluctant to commit. The other choice is 'love at first sight' Jake, the political activist who invites Randall to his native Kansas. Randall copes with help from his co-worker Antonio, the Fire Island boy crazy newbie, and Donnie, the veteran house "Mom". Max, the "Steroid Queen", gets in a few words. There are 15 original songs and 8 reprises, each in a different genre. The musical starts on June 24, 2011, the eve of the New York vote on gay marriage and unfolds over the weekend with sun, sand and Planter's Punches. Tickets $30. Wednesday, June 18 – The Equality Garden Club – The Equality Park Garden Club meets every 3rd Wednesday of the month except December.  It is a Gay and straight friendly garden club with a variety of plant related events.  Meetings include a guest speaker with a horticultural topic, plant exchange, raffle table, and refreshments. Thursday, June 19  – VIP Reception for “Days Without Sunshine: Anita Bryant’s Anti-Gay Crusade”– 7:00pm – 9:00pm. Stonewall National Museum & Archives - Wilton Manors Gallery, 2157 Wilton Drive, Wilton Manors, FL. In 1977 the Metropolitan Dade County Commission added 'sexual preference' to its existing ordinance banning discrimination in employment, housing and public services. Anita Bryant was instrumental in repealing the gay-rights referendum. It's taken decades of effort, but LGBT people have made tremendous gains in equality, including more states allowing same-sex marriage. But we still face discrimination and bullying on many levels. Thursday, June 19 – Ft. Lauderdale Chamber of Commerce Gay and Lesbian Business Xchange (GLBX) Business After Hours. – 5:30pm - 7:00pm. Fort Lauderdale Children's Theatre, 2542 B East Sunrise Blvd., Galleria Mall East End, Fort Lauderdale, FL 33308. Broward County's premiere gay-friendly networking organization, maximizing our member’s business profitability. Saturday, June 21 – Stonewall Street Festival Noon – 11:00pm.The Stonewall Pride Street Festival will be held on Saturday, June 21st from noon to 11 PM and will extend from N.E. 20th Street on the south end of Wilton Drive to Five Points at Dixie Highway on the North End of Wilton Drive.Wilton Drive will be closed to vehicular traffic from 5:00 AM on Saturday until 3:00 AM on Sunday. http://www.stonewallpridewiltonmanors.com/festival.html
 
Saturday, June 21 – Stonewall Pride Parade – 7:00pm. This years Twilight Parade is scheduled for Saturday, June 21st at 7:00 p.m. The parade will begin on the South end of Wilton Drive at Ft. Lauderdale High School and continue up Wilton Drive to Five Points at Dixie Highway. You can view the parade anywhere along Wilton Drive. Saturday, June 28 Join Equality Florida, SAVE, ACLU, NCLR and the LGBT Visitor Center at the Countdown to Marriage Rally - Noon - 2:00pm. LGBT Visitor Center, 1130 Washington Avenue, Miami Beach. Join a coalition of South Florida organizations will host “Countdown to Marriage,” a rally to call on the State of Florida to overturn the state’s ban on marriage for same-sex couples. Speaking with one voice, Equality Florida, SAVE (Safeguarding American Values for Everyone, formerly SAVE Dade), ACLU of Florida, National Center for Lesbian Rights (NCLR) and the LGBT Visitor Center will be joined by numerous other local agencies and organizations at the rally. Following Attorney General Bondi’s inflammatory comments that marriage for same-sex couples would cause “significant public harm,” the reaction from the LGBT community and its allies was swift and united. Island City Art Walk – Held on the 3rd Friday of each month, 7:00 - 10:00 p.m., November through April, along the 1.1 mile Wilton Drive, in the Wilton Manors Art and Entertainment District. The official participants include galleries, eclectic stores, cafes, boutiques and upscale restaurants, which will host over 40 local artists. On this Blog, I will post a highlight of some of the LGBT non-profit and political Events that are going on in Ft. Lauderdale each month, so folks who want to attend can put them on their Calendars. With that in mind, here are the events I want to highlight for March 2013: March Events: Friday, March 1 – Opening Reception for Stonewall National Museum & Archives Exhibit – 6:00pm – 8:00pm Stonewall National Museum & Archives,1300 East Sunrise Boulevard, Fort Lauderdale. Opening reception of photo essay by local media artist Kim Cohane featuring profiles of creative LGBTQ youth. Kim and many any artists depicted will be present.
