On this Blog, I will post a highlight of some of the LGBT non-profit and political events that are going on in Ft. Lauderdale each month, so folks who want to attend can put them on their Calendars.

Tuesday, March 1 – Mack Power Lunch – 11:30am – 1:30pm at Boat Yard, 1555 S.E. 17th Street, Ft. Lauderdale, FL. At the beginning of every Power Lunch we offer approx. 30 minutes to introduce yourself and chat with fellow attendees in a social setting. There may be a very brief presentation by an event sponsor to share insights and industry information. Then the rest of our time is enjoying lunch and breaking the ice to develop professional friendships with everyone around you.  $34.00, Advance Registration required: www.mackplanet.com

Wednesday, March 2 – Casino Night for Poverello AIDS Walk Team 7:00pm. Hunters Fort Lauderdale, 2232 Wilton Dr, Wilton Manors, Florida 33305. Hunters Fort Lauderdale is hosting Casino Night for Poverello's Hunger Fighter team for the Florida AIDS Walk and Music Festival. All funds will go to Poverello's food pantry. Games featured will be Texas hold'em, Roulette, Poker and BlackJack. Buy in will be $25 for 2500 in chips. Lots of silent auction and raffle items available. Thursday, March 3 – GLLN Social Luncheon – 11:45am – 1:15pm. TIMPANO CHOPHOUSE

Fort Lauderdale, FL 33301. Monthly luncheons are on the first thursday of every month. The mission for the gay & lesbian lawyers network is to provide a social network in which gay, lesbian and gay friendly lawyers can develop their practices through friendships, referral relationships and professional development. Tuesday, March 8 – Mack Mixer Fort Lauderdale – 6:30pm - 9:00pm. TBD. There’s no doubt MACK continues to redesign how business people create new relationships and establish friendships - regardless of sexuality. MACK aims to be the most reliable business and social network for the Gay and Lesbian Community of South Florida. Join their mailing list, register for a lunch, swing by one of the mixers, but most important - bring your friends! Everyone is welcome. Thursday, March 10 – GLBX Business After Hours – 5:30pm - 7:00pm. TBD. Friday, March 11 – SunServe Silver Serve Luncheon – 11:00am – 1:00pm (Second Friday of the Month). ArtServe, 1350 E. Sunrise Blvd. Fort Lauderdale, FL. Every Second Friday of the Month. SunServe is a model 501(c)(3) nonprofit social service agency serving the Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, and Questioning (LGBTQ) community in South Florida. We provide high quality, compassionate, and progressive care for all, including those in financial need, minorities, youth, seniors, families, and those with life-challenging physical or emotional conditions. Saturday, March 12 – SAGE in Fort Lauderdale Event Honoring Tony Timiraos 6:30pm - 8:30pm. 2415 Middle River Drive, Fort Lauderdale, FL 33305. SAGE (Services & Advocacy for GLBT Elders) is the country's largest and oldest organization dedicated to improving the lives of lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) older adults. SAGE’s mission is to lead in addressing issues related to LGBT aging. In Fort Lauderdale, SAGE and Our Fund Community Foundation have teamed to provide training to local service providers, including the Pride Center and SunServe, who will, in turn train employees of area facilities and agencies in the care of, and respect for, LGBT elders.  The Pride Center also continues to be a key pilot site for SAGEWorks, a training program for older LGBT people seeking to re-enter the workforce. Saturday, March 12 – Pride Center Bingo – Second Saturdays of Each Month. 6:30 p.m. doors open; 7:30 p.m. Pride Center, 2040 N. Dixie Hwy, Wilton Manors. Main Hall, Schubert Building. Bingo; proceeds benefit The Pride Center. The cost is $15.00 for the Bingo Package.  There will be a concession stand open and there is a 50/50 raffle. Tuesday, March 15 – GFLGLCC February Mixer

Wednesday, March 16 – The Equality Garden Club – The Equality Park Garden Club meets every 3rd Wednesday of the month except December.  It is a Gay and straight friendly garden club with a variety of plant related events.  Meetings include a guest speaker with a horticultural topic, plant exchange, raffle table, and refreshments. March 17 - April 3 – Slow Burn Theatre Company, Spring Awakenings Amaturo Theater at the Broward Center.201 SW 5th Ave, Fort Lauderdale, Florida 33312. The winner of eight Tony Awards including Best Musical, Spring Awakening  explores the poignant journey of a group of German students in the 19th century as they move from adolescence to adulthood. The landmark musical is a rock musical adaption of morality, sexuality, rock and roll, and the trials and tribulations of growing up.

Saturday, March 19 – Wilton Manors Art Expo – Held on the 3rd Saturday of each month – 7:00 pm - 10:00 pm. November through April, along the 1.1 mile Wilton Drive, in the Wilton Manors Art and Entertainment District. The official participants include galleries, eclectic stores, cafes, boutiques and upscale restaurants, which will host over 40 local artists. This is a grassroots collaboration bringing culture and business together for the public to enjoy. Experience Stonewall Gallery, as part of the Art Walk On Wilton Drive. Sunday, March 20 – Lambda Legal in Fort Lauderdale – 5:00pm – 7:00pm. Bonnet House Museum & Gardens, 900 N Birch Rd, Fort Lauderdale, Florida 33304. Lambda Legal returns to the Bonnet House Museum & Gardens on Sunday, March 20, 2016. Join us for an evening of cocktails & hors d'oeuvres among the lush grounds of this historic Fort Lauderdale icon as we celebrate Lambda Legal’s victories for equality and commit to the work ahead. TBD – Pride Center Founders Circle Reception – 6:00 pm- 8:00 pm. TBD. The Founder's Circle are individuals who make a monthly gift of $100 to the Pride Center. If you are interested in attending the event to see what it is all about, there is no commitment to become a Founder, just a chance to meet folks and hear about the great work the Pride Center is doing. Free parking is available but limited. Sunday, April 10 – The Pride Center 5K Run/Walk on Wilton Drive – A 5K run or walk through the city. Both the 5K Run/Walk will be professionally timed by Split Second Timing, with overall male & female winners as well as age-based category winners.In the heart of the City of Wilton Manors, Wilton Drive! Friday, May 13 –Diversity Honors, co-presented by the Harvey Milk Foundation and The Pride Center at Equality Park – 6:00pm – 10:00pm at The Seminole Hard Rock Hotel and Casino. Diversity Honors event is a collaboration between two organizations, The Harvey Milk Foundation and The Pride Center at Equality Park. Diversity Honors is designed to put South Florida on the International stage of LGBTQ rights and activism. The event will highlight those who have made a transformational effect on improving the lives of others, leading the change to promote inclusion and acceptance. Lauderdale each month, so folks who want to attend can put them on their Calendars. With that in mind, here are the events I want to highlight for March 2013: March Events: Friday, March 1 – Opening Reception for Stonewall National Museum & Archives Exhibit – 6:00pm – 8:00pm Stonewall National Museum & Archives,1300 East Sunrise Boulevard, Fort Lauderdale. Opening reception of photo essay by local media artist Kim Cohane featuring profiles of creative LGBTQ youth. Kim and many any artists depicted will be present.
