October 2018 LGBT Events in Ft Lauderdale

On this Blog, I will post a highlight of some of the LGBT non-profit and political events that are going on in Ft. Lauderdale each month, so folks who want to attend can put them on their Calendars.

Tuesday, Oct. 2 – GLBX Inaugural Business Community Ally 6:00 PM - 8:00 PM. by Pier Sixty-Six Hotel & Marina (2301 SE 17 Street Fort Lauderdale. This new recognition event with six award categories will showcase individuals along with business and government entities that are successfully doing business with the LGBT+ community, defining and implementing diversity and inclusion policies and supporting worthy related causes. This year’s category winners are: Business Ally (Citrix), Business Leader (Susan Renneisen/Seminole Hard Rock Hotel & Casino), Impact (Ilene Berliner & Mark Ketcham), Advocate (City of Wilton Manors), Legacy (Steve Rothaus) and Visionary (Greater Fort Lauderdale Convention & Visitors Bureau). Tickets for the GLBX BCA Awards at the Pier Top Restaurant at the Pier Sixty-Six Hotel & Marina are $45 for members and $55 for non-members and can be purchased at www.ftlchamber.com/bca

Thursday, Oct 4 – GLLN Social Luncheon – 11:45am - 1:15pm. Timpano Chophouse 450 E Las Olas Boulevard Fort Lauderdale, FL 33301. Monthly luncheons are on the first Thursday of every month. The mission for the gay & lesbian lawyers network is to provide a social network in which gay, lesbian and gay friendly lawyers can develop their practices through friendships, referral relationships and professional development. Saturday, Oct. 6 – 22nd Annual National LGBTQ Task Force Gala Miami – 6:00pm - Midnight. Fontainebleau Miami Beach, 4441 Collins Ave., Miami Beach, FL 33140. The National LGBTQ Task Force Gala – Miami is an important South Florida tradition. It allows the LGBTQ community and its supporters to honor our heroes, while at the same time providing a vital source of funding for the community on both the local and national levels. The event is produced by the National LGBTQ Task Force, the oldest national organization dedicated to achieving equality for LGBTQ people, and also benefits dozens of organizations serving the Miami-Dade LGBTQ community. The National LGBTQ Task Force is proud to announce longtime South Florida activists and philanthropists Charles Million and Tim Nardi will receive the 2018 Eddy McIntyre Community Service Award. The evening features a cocktail reception, a sit-down dinner, a silent auction, an awards ceremony, and dancing. Tickets are $450 per person. http://thetaskforcegala.org/

Wednesday, Oct. 10 – Dolphin Democrats Meeting – Second Wednesday of Each Month. 7:00pm. The Pride Center, 2040 A North Dixie Highway, Wilton Manors, FL. 7:00 pm – Pizza and social. 7:30 pm – Meeting. “Further, it shall be the mission of this organization to foster good will between gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) members of the Democratic Party and the community at large. Thursday, Oct. 11 – A Taste of History – 6:00 pm – 9:00 pm. Historic Stranahan House Museum335 SE 6thAve., Fort Lauderdale, FL 33301. Join Stonewall National Museum & Archives on National Coming Out Day during LGBTQ History Month at the historic Stranahan House. Guests will enjoy tastings from local restaurants including Kilwins, New York Grilled Cheese, SideCar Kitchen, open bar, photo booth, raffles and more! Tickets $50 per person. Friday, Oct. 12 – SunServe Silver Serve Luncheon – 11:00am – 1:00pm (Second Friday of the Month). ArtServe, 1350 E. Sunrise Blvd. Fort Lauderdale, FL. Every Second Friday of the Month. SunServe is a model 501(c)(3) nonprofit social service agency serving the Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, and Questioning (LGBTQ) community in South Florida. We provide high quality, compassionate, and progressive care for all, including those in financial need, minorities, youth, seniors, families, and those with life-challenging physical or emotional conditions. Saturday, Oct. 13 – Pride Center Bingo – Second Saturdays of Each Month. 6:30 p.m. doors open; 7:30 p.m. Pride Center, 2040 N. Dixie Hwy, Wilton Manors. Main Hall, Schubert Building. Bingo; proceeds benefit The Pride Center. The cost is $15.00 for the Bingo Package.  There will be a concession stand open and there is a 50/50 raffle. Sunday, Oct. 28 – An Afternoon with the Task Force    4:00pm – 7:00pm. Please join us for an Afternoon with the Task Force with cocktails and hors d’oeuvres. Executive Director Rea Carey will share updates on the Task Force’s leadership in the resistance against the current administration and how we will persevere to win lived equality for LGBTQ people and their families.
