February 2019 LGBT Events in Ft Lauderdale

On this Blog, I will post a highlight of some of the LGBT non-profit and political events that are going on in Ft. Lauderdale each month, so folks who want to attend can put them on their Calendars.

Saturday, February 2 – SAGE of South Florida Monthly Luncheon– 12:30pm – 2:00pm at the Herb Skolnic Center in Pompano Beach. Call (954) 634-7219 to reserve your space.

Saturday, February 2 – Latinos Salud 10-Year AnniversaryGala – Design Center of the Americas (DCOTA) 1855 Griffin Road, Dania Beach. 7:00 - 11:00 PM (6:00 PM start for VIP guests). Come honor and celebrate 10 years of community partnerships, fabulous events, and most of all, improved health for Latinos, and the entire LGBT community!  Enjoy an open bar, local Hispanic musicians and performers, and a plated awards dinner, all within the stunningly designed and soaring DCOTA atrium. Local NBC6 news anchor Roxanne Vargas will emcee the evening. Project Runway All Stars winner Mondo Guerra will participate in an “Actor’s Stage” discussion, reflecting on his creative journey, HIV stigma, and how his unplanned disclosure of his own HIV-positive status proved liberating. VIP guests get preview hour in the open bar (starting at 6:00), and a meet and greet with Mondo Guerra.

Thursday, February 7 – Happy Hour FTL with August Gold– 6:30 PM – 7:30 PM. Art Gallery 21 at the Woman's Club of Wilton Manors, 600 NE 21st Ct, Wilton Manors. A master teacher of stories and the Tao Te Ching, August is a spiritual leader and author. Translated into 15 language, her books include The Prayer Chest, Multiply Your Blessings, Think & Grow Rich Workbook Series, and the award-winning children's book, Where Does God Live?

Friday, February 8 – SunServe Silver ServeLuncheon – 11:00am – 1:00pm (Second Friday of the Month). ArtServe, 1350 E. Sunrise Blvd. Fort Lauderdale, FL. Every Second Friday of the Month. SunServe is a model 501(c)(3) nonprofit social service agency serving the Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, and Questioning (LGBTQ) community in South Florida. We provide high quality, compassionate, and progressive care for all, including those in financial need, minorities, youth, seniors, families, and those with life-challenging physical or emotional conditions. Saturday, February 9 – SAGE & Friends in Miami– 7:00 - 9:00 PM. The Betsy Hotel, 1440 Ocean Drive, Miami Beach. Join SAGE for drinks and hors-d’oeuvres in Miami to celebrate our community’s trailblazers as well as honor Raquel Matas and Carla Lupi. At the reception, SAGE CEO Michael Adams will share updates from our work in South Florida and the rest of the country. Your attendance furthers SAGE’s work, assuring that our LGBT pioneers can continue to thrive.

Saturday, February 9 – Pride Center Bingo– Second Saturdays of Each Month. 6:30 p.m. doors open; 7:30 p.m. Pride Center, 2040 N. Dixie Hwy, Wilton Manors. Main Hall, Schubert Building. Bingo; proceeds benefit The Pride Center. The cost is $15.00 for the Bingo Package.  There will be a concession stand open and there is a 50/50 raffle. In general, about $1100.00 in prizes are given out.

Tuesday, February 12 – III Points LGBTQ Activation!– 6 PM – 10 PM, Blackbird Ordinary, 729 Southwest 1st Avenue, Miami, Florida 33130. III Points Music Festival and Equality Florida invite you to a discussion of Self-Love and Acceptance with the community at Blackbird Ordinary. Moderated by Michael Gongora, Vice Mayor of Miami Beach, topics of self-love, acceptance and assurance will be discussed, and related stories will be celebrated and shared in this open, inclusive space. Featuring celebrated panelists such as Jonathan Barrio from Equality Florida, Candelario Saldana from University of Miami - OUTLaw, Dr. Daniel Sheridan, Psychologist, Cindy Brown, a non-profit consultant and community leader, and a special IIII Points Music Festival artist, GET FACE will come together to share their perspectives on these topics in their industries.

Wednesday, February 13 – 4Ward Gala– 6:30 - 9:30 PM. Bacardi Headquarters, 2701 South LeJeune Road, Coral Gables. Join the 4th annual 4Ward Gala and the Pa’Lante (4Ward) Awards honoring those who have made an outstanding contribution to grass roots organizing and engagement. This event is an exclusive fundraiser for 4Ward Miami, Inc which promotes civic engagement in South Florida through its programming. 4Ward Miami produces the Gay8 Festival hosted by the LGBTQ community and held on Sunday 2/17 (President’s Day Weekend), and 4Ward Americas – an LGBTI international human rights confernce at the University of Miami during the same weekend. In addition, the organization works on documentary films and several different kinds of outreach and education campaigns.

Wednesday, February 13 – Dolphin Democrats Meeting– Second Wednesday of Each Month. 7:00pm. The Pride Center, 2040 A North Dixie Highway, Wilton Manors, FL. 7:00 pm – Pizza and social. 7:30 pm – Meeting. “Further, it shall be the mission of this organization to foster good will between gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) members of the Democratic Party and the community at large. We seek individual freedom in the framework of a just society and political freedom in the framework of meaningful participation by all citizens.”

Sunday, February 17 – Gay8 Festival– 11 AM - 10 PM. SW 8th St. from 14th Ave. to 17th Ave. Miami, Florida. Gay8 is a Hispanic LGBT art, music and food street festival in Miami. The one day festival blends all of South Florida’s delights into one gigantic party in the heart of Miami’s historic, Little Havana. Gay8 is preceded by two days (Friday and Saturday) of festival related activities at local sponsoring restaurants, galleries and dance clubs–which will host special VIP/ Sponsor events. It would be great if we can all go together and enjoy the festivities!

Tuesday, February 19 – GFLGLCC Mixer– 5:30 PM - 7:30 PM. The Atlantic Hotel & Spa

February 21 – GFLGLCC Quarterly Networking Luncheon– 11:30am - 1:00pm Bona Italian Restaurant, 2468 Wilton Drive, Wilton Manors, FL 33305. Join us as the Greater Fort Lauderdale Convention & Visitor's Bureau presents the GFLGLCC- Greater Fort Lauderdale LGBT Chamber of Commerce Holiday Networking Luncheon at the beautiful Thasos Greek Taverna. Monday, February 25 – SAGE of South Florida Men's Night Out– 5:30 pm – 7:00 pm at Rumors, 2426 Wilton Dr., Wilton Manors, FL 33305. Every fourth Monday of the month, SAGE men meet at Tropics for cocktails, dinner and lively conversation. Please Note: Men's Night Out has moved to Rumors on Wilton Drive (across from Rosie's)

Saturday, March 2 – Thou Art Woman-Open Mic & Performance Night– 7 PM - 10 PM, Broward Center for the Performing Arts, 201 SW 5th Ave, Fort Lauderdale, Florida 33312. There is no other night like this! LGBTQ women and their allies share their talent and their stories during an open mic night at the Amaturo Theatre. Come enjoy poetry, spoken word, dance, comedy, music and everything else that can happen during the night! Hosted by G of and Nik Harris. Performers include Inez Barlatier, May Reign the Poet, Rebecca “Butterfly” Vaughns, TheePoeticTruth, and creative dance group Da Haus. Doors open at 6pm... make sure to arrive early for pre show activities and entertainment! Sunday, March 10 – Gay Men's Chorus of South Florida's Gala Brunch– 11:00 AM. Pier 66 Hotel & Marina, 2310 SE 17th St, Fort Lauderdale. The Gay Men’s Chorus of South Florida’s Gala Brunch has become one of the most highly anticipated social events of the season.  The brunch welcomes nearly 500 guests to a lively, engaging and entertaining morning of food, fun and music.  Silent and live auctions offer great prizes for bidders, while also raising funds to support the Chorus’s operations and outreach work in the community.  

Saturday, March 30 - Pride Center Diversity Honors- 7:00 PM. Seminole Hardrock & Casino, Hollywood. The Seminole Hard Rock Hotel & Casino Hollywood will be the setting for the Diversity Honors gala that kicks off Harvey Milk Day events across the nation and will benefit the Harvey Milk Foundation and The Pride Center at Equality Park. This highly anticipated event will showcase those who are transforming lives by living authentically and advancing inclusiveness.

Sunday, March 31 – Lambda Legal in Fort Lauderdale– 5:00 PM - 7:30 PM. Bonnet House Museum & Gardens, 900 N Birch Rd, Fort Lauderdale, Florida 33304. Join us for our annual Lambda Legal in Fort Lauderdale event at the historic Bonnet House Museum & Gardens on Sunday, March 31st, 2019. The evening will feature entertainment, cocktails & heavy hors d'oeuvres as we rally our resistance and celebrate our resolve. Sunday, December 1 – World AIDS Day Vigil and Remembrance Walk 2019 – 6:30- 8:00pm. Hagen Park/City Hall, 2020 Wilton Drive, Wilton Manors, FL. On Sunday, December 1st at 6:30 pm, we invite our community to come together for a World AIDS Day Vigil and Remembrance Walk. We will meet at Hagen Park and walk down Wilton Drive united in memory, healing, and love. The candlelit walk will culminate at The Pride Center for a few words of respectful remembrance, support, and continued vigilance. We invite the community to join us at Hagen Park to strengthen this tradition of hope and healing.
