February LGBT Events in Ft. Lauderdale

On this Blog, I will post a highlight of some of the LGBT non-profit and political Events that are going on in Ft. Lauderdale each month, so folks who want to attend can put them on their Calendars. With that in mind, here are the events I want to highlight for February 2013:

February Events:

Saturday, February 2 – Pride Center Flea Market 8:00am – 2:00pm. Pride Center, 2040 N. Dixie HWY, Wilton Manors, Florida 33305. Looking for something special? Come to the Pride Center's Flea Market - every first Saturday of the month! 

February 1 - 14 – Our Fund will Double your Pleasure for 14 Days! Our Fund will match gifts from new donors or increased gifts from current donors who make a gift of $500.00 to a local non-profit organization serving the LGBT community in South Florida. http://our-fund.org/twohearts.html

Tuesday, February 5 – Stonewall Book Discussion Group – 7pm. Stonewall National Museum & Archives,1300 East Sunrise Boulevard, Fort Lauderdale. They will discuss A New Normal by William Neal, Former Marine Major Jake Vincenzo plays matchmaker to his 19 year old son, Mark, and his best friend, Cade. He did not anticipate himself falling in love with Cade. How will the three navigate this love triangle? Tuesday, February 5 – Social Network and Web 2.0 to the LGBT Community – 5:30 – 7:00pm. Pride Center, 2040 N. Dixie HWY, Wilton Manors, Florida 33305. Presented by The Greater Fort Lauderdale Gay and Lesbian Chamber of Commerce and Pink Banana Media. Most of you are using Facebook to its full potential, and are also probably quite active on LinkedIn as well. Tuesday, February 5 – GFLGLCC & MetLife - Financial Planning Seminar "Planning with Pride" – 7:00 – 8:00pm. Pride Center, 2040 N. Dixie HWY, Wilton Manors, Florida 33305. That’s why it’s especially important to learn the facts and take proactive steps now to help protect against many of the uncertainties you face—so you can look to the years ahead with confidence that comes with being financially protected. As part of this seminar, Anthony Timiraos of Our Fund will speak briefly about his organization and gift planning for 2013 and beyond. NOTE: This event will be proceeded by a Gay Market Seminar --"Social Network and Web 2.0 Marketing to the LGBT Community" which will be presented by Matt Skallerud of Pink Banana Media. Friday, February 8 – Movies at Stonewall– 7pm. Stonewall National Museum & Archives, 1300 East Sunrise Boulevard, Fort Lauderdale. Pick Up Mick - The world of gay, lesbian, and trans-gendered rappers. Featuring performances and interviews with the community's most significant players, it captures this underground music movement just as it's exploding into the mainstream, defying the homophobic stereotypes of traditional hip-hop in the process. http://www.stonewallnationalmuseum.org/filmseries.html

Sunday, February 10 – Aqua Foundation for Women Ally Awards– 6:00 – 9:00pm. Bacardi Building, 2701 Le Jeune Road, 15th Floor, Coral Gables, Florida. Get your tickets now for Aqua Ally Awards! On Friday, February 10th from 6-9 PM we will be celebrating those who stand with us in the fight for equality. Friday, February 15 – Movies at Stonewall– 7pm. Stonewall National Museum & Archives, 1300 East Sunrise Boulevard, Fort Lauderdale. Jitters - For these teenagers from Iceland, life is happening, right here, right now. This energetic coming-of-age drama follows a closeted boy and his group of trouble-prone friends, providing a positive, fun look at young people today. http://www.stonewallnationalmuseum.org/filmseries.html

Tuesday, February 19 – The Pride Center’s Founders Circle Reception – 6:00 – 8:00pm. Riverside Hotel, 620 East Las Olas Boulevard, Ft. Lauderdale, FL 33301. The Founder's Circle are individuals who make a monthly gift of $100 to the Pride Center. If you are interested in attending the event to see what it is all about, just email me at rubinlee@yahoo.com and I will put you on the Guest list. There is no commitment to become a Founder, just a chance to meet folks and hear about the great work the Pride Center is doing.

Thursday, February 21 – Equality Florida, Broward Council Mixer – 6pm, Cocktail Reception at Private home to learn more about the Equality Florida Council. Council Members contribute a monthly gift of $100 a month to sustain the work of Equality Florida. A grassroots, statewide human rights organization working on behalf of lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender people to secure equality and fairness, regardless of sexual orientation or gender identity.  For more information, email rubinlee@yahoo.com

Saturday, February 23 – The Pride Center’s Dining With Pride at Rodeo – Lunch and Dinner. Rodeo Restaurant and Martini Bar. 2033 Wilton Dr., Wilton Manors, FL 33305. The night will feature local GLBT & GLBT Friendly businesses showcasing food, wine and more. The night will also feature special presentations on Boutique Wines, Cocktail Mixing and Food with special guest presenters. Doors will open at 7pm. Wednesday, March 8 – MACK POWER LUNCH CELEBRATES 8 YEARS 11:30am – 1:30pm at The Capital Grille, 2430 East Sunrise Blvd. Fort Lauderdale, FL 33304. At the beginning of every Power Lunch we offer approx. 30 minutes to introduce yourself and chat with fellow attendees in a social setting. There may be a very brief presentation by an event sponsor to share insights and industry information. March 6th – 11th – National Gay and Lesbian Task Force Winter Party Festival in Miami Beach The 2013 Winter Party Festival in beautiful Miami Beach, is one of the most anticipated events of the year, the hottest winter in the world. Tuesday, March 3  –  Equality Florida Broward Equality Connection    –   5:30 PM – 7:30 PM. Whale's Bar & Grill, 3537 Galt Ocean Dr, Fort Lauderdale, Florida 33308. Please join us for our Broward Equality Connection on Tuesday, March 3rd at Whale's Bar & Grill. Stop by to mix, mingle, and enjoy delicious lite bites, drink specials, and a raffle. This will be a fun event, open to all! On hand will be our local South Florida leadership team to let you know what's next in the fight for full equality in the midst of this contentious legislative session.
