May LGBT Events in Ft. Lauderdale

On this Blog, I will post a highlight of some of the LGBT non-profit and political Events that are going on in Ft. Lauderdale each month, so folks who want to attend can put them on their Calendars. 

Friday, April 26 – Sunday, May 5 –  Miami Gay and Lesbian Film Festival – The festival has grown from a 3-day event in which 25 films were presented to the current format of 10 days with over 65 films. The Miami Gay and Lesbian Film Festival is an internationally acclaimed event serving as a platform for numerous World Premiers, North American Premiers and East Coast Premiers. The Miami Gay and Lesbian Film Festival is the first MAJOR LGBT film festival to occur in the calendar year, setting the tone for the entire LGBT film festival season. http://www.mglff.com

Wednesday, May 1 – Richard Blanco, Inaugural Poet, at “Plum Blush of Dusk” Benefitting Palm Beach County Human Rights Council 7:30pm – 9:00pm. Ritz Carlton, Palm Beach, 100 S. Ocean Blvd., Manalapan, FL. To attend the VIP event, the Poetry Reading and the reception, just donate $250. Your name will be added to the VIP list for each $250 increment donated. Wednesday, May 7 – MACK POWER LUNCH – 11:30am – 1:30pm at Thasos Greek Taverna, 3330 E. Oakland Park Blvd., Fort Lauderdale, FL. At the beginning of every Power Lunch we offer approx. 30 minutes to introduce yourself and chat with fellow attendees in a social setting. There may be a very brief presentation by an event sponsor to share insights and industry information. Saturday, May 11  – Bike It For Life – A one day progressive century ride. You can choose to ride 15 miles or 30, you can ride 60 or 100 miles in one day, it’s up to you, your skill your personal pace and what your ultimate goal is for the day. It’s a ride where you can bring all those who say I’d love to ride but I can’t do 100 miles, but can get on a bike and ride even for just an hour and in the end raise money and awareness to HIV/AIDS. The cost is also very different than The SMART Ride, it’s only $50 to register and a commitment to fundraise an additional $250. http://bikeitforlife.org/

Wednesday, May 15 –  The Equality Garden Club – The Equality Park Garden Club meets every 3rd Wednesday of the month except December.  It is a Gay and Straight friendly garden club with a variety of plant related events.  Meetings include a guest speaker with a horticultural topic, plant exchange, raffle table, and refreshments.  May 11 we have a ramble to nurseries in Homestead on a chartered bus and seats are still available. Thursday, May 16 – The Pride Center’s Dining With Pride at Tee-Jay Thai Sushi – Lunch and Dinner. Tee-Jay Thai Sushi. 2254 Wilton Dr., Wilton Manors, FL 33305. Monday, May 20 – The Pride Center’s Founders Circle Reception – 6:00 – 8:00pm. Broward Center’s New Club Level of the Au-Rene Theater, 210 NW 5th Ave, Fort Lauderdale. The Founder's Circle are individuals who make a monthly gift of $100 to the Pride Center.
