On this Blog, I will post a highlight of some of the LGBT non-profit and political events that are going on in Ft. Lauderdale each month, so folks who want to attend can put them on their Calendars. 


Sunday, December 1 – Worlds AIDs Day – 2020 Wilton Drive (behind city hall), Lineup - 6:30 pm - Hagen Park, Step off from curb - 7:00 pm Rally - The Pride Center, 2040 Dixie Highway, Wilton Manors. Come join over 2800 people at what has become one of the largest World AIDS Day Commemorations in the nation as we walk, candles in hand to remember those we have lost to HIV/AIDS and a rally to look towards the future. Tuesday, December 3 – Mack Power Lunch – 11:30am – 1:30pm at Dapur Asian Tapas, 1620 N. Federal Hway, Fort Lauderdale, FL 33305. At the beginning of every Power Lunch we offer approx. 30 minutes to introduce yourself and chat with fellow attendees in a social setting. There may be a very brief presentation by an event sponsor to share insights and industry information. Tuesday, December 3 – Pride Center Founder's Circle Reception – 6:00pm - 8:00pm. Gallery One, A Doubletree Suites by Hilton 2670 East Sunrise Blvd., Fort Lauderdale, FL. The Founder's Circle are individuals who make a monthly gift of $100 to the Pride Center. There is no commitment to become a Founder, just a chance to meet folks and hear about the great work the Pride Center is doing.

Thursday, December 5 – 5 Year GLBX Anniversary Celebration & Holiday Party – 5:00pm – 7:00pm at Riverside Hotel 620 East Las Olas Blvd, Ft. Lauderdale. Please join the Board of Governors of the GLBX and its members & friends for the 5 Year GLBX Anniversary Celebration on Thursday, December 5th, from 5:00 pm - 7:00 pm at the Riverside Hotel. As last year, the Riverside Hotel will host this event in their ballroom, located on the 8th floor - overlooking Fort Lauderdale and the New River. Saturday, December 7 – Rise, Impulse Group Ft. Lauderdale – 6:00pm – 10:00pm at Hyatt Regency Pier 66, 2301 SE 17th St., Ft. Lauderdale. Impulse Group is an organization, based in South Florida, dedicated to the advancement of safe sex awareness and practice among young, sexually active gay men between the ages of 18-35, in collaboration with the AIDS Healthcare Foundation. Wednesday, December 11 – A Toy Story 4 – 7:00pm – 10:00pm at The Venue at the Manor, 2345 Wilton Drive, Wilton Manors, 33305. Join friends and family in spreading the Holiday Cheer as we bring you the 4th installment of the ever popular A TOY’S STORY, A Night For Giving on Wednesday December 11th from 7:00 to 10:00 p.m. at The Venue Fort Lauderdale.The past three years of this event have sold out, with hundreds in attendance. 100% of the donation will go to Fort Lauderdale based charities including SunServe, Broward House, and the Jessica June Center. Sunday, December 15 – Broward House Presents Cheech & Chong at the Hard Rock Hotel– 7:00pm. Hard Rock Hotel and Casino, 1 Seminole Way, Hollywood, Florida 33314.

Tuesday, December 17 – Sunshine Cathedral: Seraphic Fire Candlelight Christmas Concert – 7:30pm at 1480 SW 9th Ave., Fort Lauderdale, FL. Nominated for a 2012 GRAMMY award! From the ringing of distant church bells to the rapturous sound of a cappella carols, the ensemble presents what has become one of the season’s most anticipated concert experiences: Seraphic Fire’s annual candlelight Christmas concerts. Wednesday, December 18 – HotSpots Media Group’s 6th Annual Community Holiday Party to benefit Broward House – 7:00pm. Museum of Discovery and Science. 401 SW 2nd Street, Fort Lauderdale, FL. Join us for one of the largest South Florida LGBT Holiday Celebrations put on for by Hotspots Media Group. This is the 6th Annual Hotspots Holiday Celebration. Thursday, December 19 – Our Fund Holiday Party for First 100 Funders Members – 6:00pm. Invitation Only Event - At the Home of Ken Hollander and John Kardos. The First 100 Funders are a unique group of 100 supporters who believe in the mission and purpose of Our Fund and pledge their support for a period of three years by committing a significant annual contribution during the first three years of operation. Half of Our First 100 Funders' contributions is dedicated to supporting startup costs and initial operations of the Foundation. The remaining half is allocated to Our First 100 Funders' Fund and used to promote philanthropy throughout our community. Saturday, December 21– Santa's 5K Fun Run/Walk & Santa's Sleigh Race 
South Florida – Saturday, December 21 get ready for one heck of a crazy day as Broward House, AIDS Healthcare Foundation, Rosie's Bar and Grill, Bills and Alibi bring you an all new, sure to be crazy day that is sure to bring out the masses for a day full of fun and surprises. Start the morning off at 9:00 am with hundreds of others in the parking lot of the Shoppes of Wilton Manors dressed as your favorite holiday character (think Santa, Mrs. Clause, Rudolph, Frosty, an elf, a Dradle, or anything that resonates the holiday season for you) for a 5K Fun Run/Walk around the city of Wilton Manors. After the run/walk, spend some time hanging out with other holiday creatures while having a festive time sipping a cocktail, dancing to the sounds of our DJ and stage performers before getting ready for the start of the amazing; 2nd ANNUAL SANTA'S SLEIGH (BED) RACE. If you were there last year, you know how much fun this is to watch (or even better, be in!) Each bed will be themed to the holiday season and have a crew of 5 dressed to match that theme. Beds will race down the street against each other until it comes down to the final two. March 5 -10 – National Gay and Lesbian Task Force’s Winter Party Festival  – Launched in 1994 as a one-time charity dance event on the sands of beautiful South Beach, Winter Party Festival has evolved into a week-long series of events benefiting the LGBT community nationally and locally.  A portion of the net proceeds of WPF support the National Gay and Lesbian Task Force's efforts to take action, build power and create change for LGBT people. The majority of the proceeds are donated to local service organizations through a grant-making process administered by The Miami Foundation.  Over 10,000 guests from around the world attend our annual six-day extravaganza featuring the most spectacular venues, the most unforgettable parties and receptions and the best international DJ talent. http://www.winterparty.com/about-winter-party-festival

Sunday, March 30 – Lambda Legal Garden Party  – 5:00pm – 7:30pm. Bonnet House, 900 North Birch Road, Fort Lauderdale, FL. Please join Lambda Legal for the 10th annual Fort Lauderdale Reception. This annual event, a cocktail and hors d’oeuvres reception among the lush grounds of the Bonnet House Museum and Gardens will bring together more than 300 of our supporters from across South Florida’s LGBT and allied community to celebrate the work of Lambda Legal.

Lauderdale each month, so folks who want to attend can put them on their Calendars. With that in mind, here are the events I want to highlight for March 2013: March Events: Friday, March 1 – Opening Reception for Stonewall National Museum & Archives Exhibit – 6:00pm – 8:00pm Stonewall National Museum & Archives,1300 East Sunrise Boulevard, Fort Lauderdale. Opening reception of photo essay by local media artist Kim Cohane featuring profiles of creative LGBTQ youth. Kim and many any artists depicted will be present.
