On this Blog, I will post a highlight of some of the LGBT non-profit and political events that are going on in Ft. Lauderdale each month, so folks who want to attend can put them on their Calendars.

Monday, January 6  – Opening Reception – Two new exhibits: Dear Abby: Letters and Advice on Homosexuality; And Snap Judgment: Morgan and Marvin Smith, Photographers of Harlem – 6:00pm. Stonewall National Museum and Archives, 1300 East Sunrise Blvd., Fort Lauderdale, FL. Opening cocktail party for two new Exhibits. Find out just how ahead of her time Abigail Van Burn was on issues of LGBT compassion and understanding. And Snap Judgement: The Harlem Renaissance captured through the lens of African American twins Morgan and Marvin Smith. One was gay. Tuesday, January 7 – Mack Power Lunch – 11:30am – 1:30pm at Thasos Greek Taverna, 33330 Oakland Park Blvd, Fort Lauderdale, FL.  At the beginning of every Power Lunch we offer approx. 30 minutes to introduce yourself and chat with fellow attendees in a social setting. There may be a very brief presentation by an event sponsor to share insights and industry information. Thursday, January 9  – 2014 January GLLN Luncheon 12:00pm – 1:30pm. Tee Jay Thai and Sushi in Wilton Manors, 2254 Wilton Dr, Fort Lauderdale, FL 33305.  The mission for the Gay & Lesbian Lawyers Network is to provide a social network in which gay, lesbian and gay friendly lawyers can develop their practices through friendships, referral relationships and professional development. Wednesday, January 15 – The Equality Garden Club – The Equality Park Garden Club meets every 3rd Wednesday of the month except December.  It is a Gay and straight friendly garden club with a variety of plant related events.  Meetings include a guest speaker with a horticultural topic, plant exchange, raffle table, and refreshments. Thursday, January 16  – Pride South Florida Casino Night Fundraiser – 7:00pm – 11:00pm. Sidelines Sports & Video Bar, 2031-A Wilton Drive, Wilton Manors, Florida 33305. On Thursday, January 16th, 2014 Pride South Florida will hold their first Casino Night fundraiser at Sidelines Sports & Video Bar in Wilton Manors. This event gives all attendees the opportunity to enjoy an evening filled with the lights, glitz, and excitement Las Vegas offers while supporting a great cause in their own backyard! Tickets for the event are $25.00 before January 2nd, 2014, each advanced purchased ticket gives party-goers the chance to use $4000.00 in "fun money” to play a variety of Las Vegas style games, including Roulette, Black Jack, Texas Hold’Em style Poker (both open play and Tournament Style), a free cocktail provided by Sidelines, access to the delicious buffet table and hors d'oeuvres and more. Friday, January 24 – The Normal Heart by Larry Kramer, A staged reading to benefit The World AIDS Museum, Co-Presented by The World AIDS Museum and Stonewall National Museum & Archives – 7:00pm. Winner of the Tony Award and Drama Desk Award, The Normal Heart is a largely autobiographical play by Larry Kramer about the rise of the HIV-AIDS crisis in New York City between 1981 and 1984. The play is told through the eyes of the writer/activist Ned Weeks, the gay Jewish-American founder of a prominent HIV advocacy group. The film version will debut in the spring of 2014 on HBO, starring Julia Roberts. Directed by Michael Shayne. All proceeds benefit The World AIDS Museum. Tickets $30. Monday, January 27, – Our-Fund presents the South Florida Premier of Just Gender Documentary Film  6:30 PM at The Classic Gateway Theater, 1820 E Sunrise Blvd., Fort Lauderdale, FL 33304. March 5 -10 – National Gay and Lesbian Task Force’s Winter Party Festival  – Launched in 1994 as a one-time charity dance event on the sands of beautiful South Beach, Winter Party Festival has evolved into a week-long series of events benefiting the LGBT community nationally and locally.  A portion of the net proceeds of WPF support the National Gay and Lesbian Task Force's efforts to take action, build power and create change for LGBT people. The majority of the proceeds are donated to local service organizations through a grant-making process administered by The Miami Foundation.  Over 10,000 guests from around the world attend our annual six-day extravaganza featuring the most spectacular venues, the most unforgettable parties and receptions and the best international DJ talent. http://www.winterparty.com/about-winter-party-festival

Sunday, March 30 – Lambda Legal Garden Party  – 5:00pm – 7:30pm. Bonnet House, 900 North Birch Road, Fort Lauderdale, FL. Please join Lambda Legal for the 10th annual Fort Lauderdale Reception. This annual event, a cocktail and hors d’oeuvres reception among the lush grounds of the Bonnet House Museum and Gardens will bring together more than 300 of our supporters from across South Florida’s LGBT and allied community to celebrate the work of Lambda Legal.

Saturday, April 5 – 5th Annual International Gay Polo Tournament at the International Polo Club in Wellington –  Mark your calendars for the 5th Annual International Gay Polo Tournament. This year marks the organization's most ambitious event ever. We have kept the best of the best, while changing up a few things. Lauderdale each month, so folks who want to attend can put them on their Calendars. With that in mind, here are the events I want to highlight for March 2013: March Events: Friday, March 1 – Opening Reception for Stonewall National Museum & Archives Exhibit – 6:00pm – 8:00pm Stonewall National Museum & Archives,1300 East Sunrise Boulevard, Fort Lauderdale. Opening reception of photo essay by local media artist Kim Cohane featuring profiles of creative LGBTQ youth. Kim and many any artists depicted will be present.
