On this Blog, I will post a highlight of some of the LGBT non-profit and political events that are going on in Ft. Lauderdale each month, so folks who want to attend can put them on their Calendars.

Wednesday, April 2 – Dining Out For Life Kickoff & AIDS Walk Thank You Reception – 6:00pm – 8:00pm. J. Marks, 1245 N. Federal Highway, Fort Lauderdale. Please join us at J. Mark's Restaurant for a free reception to help us kickoff Dining Out For Life South Florida 2014 and as a thank you to our Florida AIDS Walk participants. This event will feature free passed Hors' Douevers and each person will receive two free J.Marks House Wine , Liquor, Draft Beer or signature Mojito , Margarita or Cosmo cocktails. This reception has a limited capacity so we ask that you please RSVP to Mschuch@browardhouse.org

Wednesday, April 2 – Gallery 206 Reception for Gay Armories Show– 6:00pm – 8:00pm. The Pride Center, 2040 N. Dixie Highway, Fort Lauderdale. Please join us for a reception to meet the artist and view the work of Joseph Otto Zwick , the Best of Show winner from ArtExplosion 2014. As the winner, Joseph was awarded a solo exhibition of his work. Thursday, April 3 – GLLN Luncheon 12:00pm – 1:30pm. The Drive, 2390 Wilton Drive, Wilton Manors, FL. Monthly luncheons are the first Thursday of every month. The mission for the Gay & Lesbian Lawyers Network is to provide a social network in which gay, lesbian and gay friendly lawyers can develop their practices through friendships, referral relationships and professional development. Our intention is to fully realize a true business and social network and to provide the opportunity to our participants to support one another in our practices, to promote ourselves within our firms, and to offer a helping hand to each other when needed. http://www.glln.org/events/

April 4 - 6 – Sunshine Stampeded Rodeo FGRA presents the 8th Sunshine Stampede Rodeo Bergeron Rodeo Grounds in Davie, FL. Friday Nights events at the Host Hotel, the Renaissance Fort Lauderdale-Plantation Hotel, Rodeo events start Saturday morning at the grounds. Tickets are $25. http://www.fgra.org/stampede/

Friday, April 4 – Gay Polo League - Polotini Party – International Polo Club Palm Beach, 3667 120th Ave. South, Wellington, FL 33414. Friday, April 4, 2014, marks the first rounds of polo at Grand Champions Polo Club. After a day socializing with friends and watching the games, enjoy the inaugural ‘GPL Polotini Party’ poolside at the International Polo Club. The cocktail party will include a hosted bar, international hors d'oeuvres, music and friendship. Special Guest speakers will be featured starting at 7 p.m. This cocktail party will be held at the International Polo Club Mallet Grille Pool. Tickets cost $100/person. Saturday, April 5 – 5th Annual International Gay Polo Tournament at the International Polo Club in Wellington – Mark your calendars for the 5th Annual International Gay Polo Tournament. This year marks the organization's most ambitious event ever. We have kept the best of the best, while changing up a few things. GPL is a community that shares a love for adventure, fun and the challenging sport of polo. GPL is committed to providing members with an enjoyable, supportive and competitive experience. GPL represents a wide range of ages, backgrounds and skill levels. Saturday, April 5 – FGRA Rodeo Hoedown - Rhinestones & Wranglers – 9:00pm – 3:00am. Bill’s Filling Station,  2209 Wilton Drive, Wilton Manors, FL. Saturday April 5th, the Official FGRA Sunshine Stampede Rodeo Hoedown "Rhinestones & Wranglers" Party is at Bill's Filling Station in Wilton Manors. Sunday, April 6 – 3rd Annual Gay and Lesbian Lawyers Network Fundraiser Gala benefiting Our Fund – 4:00pm – 7:00pm. Hugh’s Culinary, 4351 NE 12th Terrace, Oakland Park, FL 33334. Tickets $50 until March 24, 2014 ($100 after 3/24/14). Tickets include 2 complimentary drinks, butlered hors d’oeuvres, food stations and desserts. Tuesday, April 8 – The Pride Center’s Founders Circle Reception – 6:00 – 8:00pm. Riverside Hotel Fort Lauderdale, 620 East Las Olas Blvd, Fort Lauderdale, FL 33301 . The Founder's Circle are individuals who make a monthly gift of $100 to the Pride Center. Wednesday, April 9 – Reading Queer – Literary Salon/Queer Depot at Stonewall – 7:00 pm Stonewall National Library & Archives 1300 East Sunrise Boulevard, Fort Lauderdale. Featuring Maureen Seaton & Julie Marie Wade. Is all art-making inherently queer, particularly in a world that devalues art and consigns most artists to the margins of mainstream work?  Maybe queerness is a kind of potential we all have to express ourselves creatively, apart from gender, race, orientation, etc. What if it is? How can we tap into this potent energy source? The discussion begins: Queer Depot 101.

Thursday, April 10 – Ft. Lauderdale Chamber of Commerce Gay and Lesbian Business Xchange (GLBX) Business After Hours. 5:30pm - 7:00pm. Location To Be Announced. Broward County's premiere gay-friendly networking organization, maximizing our member’s business profitability. The GLBX Business After Hours receptions are a key element in creating and fostering these relationships. Friday, April 12 – SunServe Silver Serve Luncheon – 11:00am – 1:00pm. ArtServe, 1350 E. Sunrise Blvd. Fort Lauderdale, FL. SunServe is a model 501(c)(3) nonprofit social service agency serving the Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, and Questioning (LGBTQ) community in South Florida. We provide high quality, compassionate, and progressive care for all, including those in financial need, minorities, youth, seniors, families, and those with life-challenging physical or emotional conditions. April 11 -13 – Miami Beach Gay Pride – Miami Beach Gay Pride is an extraordinary two-day event that features a Beach Party and a Festival & Parade with more than 125 LGBT-friendly vendors and businesses, exciting celebrities, musical performances, refreshments, food and a family-friendly play area. Coming into its 6th year, Miami Beach Gay Pride has grown into the largest, two-day event of the year in Miami Beach. The hugely successful event in 2011 attracted more than 40,000 people, in 2012 more than 60,000 people and in 2013 more than 80,000 people from all walks of life, all parts of the country, and all age groups. http://www.miamibeachgaypride.com/

Wednesday, April 16 – The Equality Garden Club – The Equality Park Garden Club meets every 3rd Wednesday of the month except December.  It is a Gay and straight friendly garden club with a variety of plant related events.  Meetings include a guest speaker with a horticultural topic, plant exchange, raffle table, and refreshments. Thursday, April 24 – Dining Out for Life® to benefit Broward House - Help raise much needed funds for HIV/AIDs....and all you have to do is go out and have a fabulous meal!! On April 25, 2013, restaurants throughout South Florida will participate in the international annual event Dining Out for Life® presented by Subaru. The event is an HIV/AIDS Fundraiser and in South Florida the licensed agency for this event is Broward House, Broward County's oldest and largest HIV/AIDS community service organization supplying services up to and including housing, medical care and a myriad of other services to over 6,000 South Florida residents living with or at risk for the disease. On this Blog, I will post a highlight of some of the LGBT non-profit and political Events that are going on in Ft. Lauderdale each month, so folks who want to attend can put them on their Calendars. With that in mind, here are the events I want to highlight for March 2013: March Events: Friday, March 1 – Opening Reception for Stonewall National Museum & Archives Exhibit – 6:00pm – 8:00pm Stonewall National Museum & Archives,1300 East Sunrise Boulevard, Fort Lauderdale. Opening reception of photo essay by local media artist Kim Cohane featuring profiles of creative LGBTQ youth. Kim and many any artists depicted will be present.
