On this Blog, I will post a highlight of some of the LGBT non-profit and political events that are going on in Ft. Lauderdale each month, so folks who want to attend can put them on their Calendars.

The mission for the gay & lesbian lawyers network is to provide a social network in which gay, lesbian and gay friendly lawyers can develop their practices through friendships, referral relationships and professional development. Thursday, November 5 – Carlos Guillermo Smith, Democrat for Florida House District 49 Event – 6:00pm – 8:00pm. L'Hermitage in Fort Lauderdale, 3100 N Ocean Blvd., Fort Lauderdale, FL 33308. Friday, November 6 – Flash Fire Pizza fundraiser for Poverello – 11:00am – 11:00pm. Flash Fire Pizza, 2949 N Federal Hwy, Fort Lauderdale, FL 33306. Friday Nov 6th ALL DAY long
6-9pm International DJ/Producer Alex Ferbeyre (Dj Maximus 3000) will be spinning. All day Friday Nov 6th, Flash Fire Pizza will be hosting a kickoff fundraiser for Poverello Holiday Food Drive. By making a purchase on Nov 5, 20% of sales will go directly to Poverello to help provide food to our 2,600 clients each month. From 6-9pm International DJ/Producer Alex Ferbeyre will be spinning. So come join us on Friday Nov 6, ALL DAY and help Poverello provide a traditional holiday meal to each of our clients.

Saturday, November 7  –  Pink Nail Society Awareness Event with The South Florida Sisters of Perpetual Indulgence, The House of the Rising Sun – 7:00pm – 9:30pm. Rumors Bar & Grill, 2426 Wilton Drive, Wilton Manors. This campaign is to initiate a non-profit organization (Pink Nail Society) to focus on testing uninsured men for prostate cancer. South Florida offers ample free STD and HIV testing centers, yet free prostate examinations are scarce. Paint a pinkie nail or two. Help us raise awareness in prostate cancer. Monday, November 9 – Lambda Legal Ft. Lauderdale Appreciation Breakfast– 8:30am 10:00am. Join fellow Lambda Legal Major Donor supporters for a breakfast briefing. Spend the morning filled with fun, appetizers, and a recap of Lambda Legal's recent victory for marriage equality at the Supreme Court, and learn more about the work ahead for LGBT equality! Monday, November 9 – Our Fund presents The 5th Annual National LGBT Leadership Forum and Reception – 5:00pm 7:00pm. Horvitz Auditorium, adjacent to the Museum of Art - Fort Lauderdale, One East Las Olas Blvd., Fort Lauderdale, FL 33301. Join us for an in-depth discussion with national LGBT leaders regarding the future of equality, one week after the mid-term elections. Tuesday, November 10– Pride Center Founders Circle Reception – 6:00 pm- 8:00 pm. Pride Center 20140 N. Dioxie Highway, Wilton Manors. The Founder's Circle are individuals who make a monthly gift of $100 to the Pride Center. If you are interested in attending the event to see what it is all about, there is no commitment to become a Founder, just a chance to meet folks and hear about the great work the Pride Center is doing. Free parking is available but limited. Tuesday, November 10 – Mack Mixer Fort Lauderdale – 6:30pm - 9:00pm. Boatyard, 1555 SE 17th Street, Fort Lauderdale. There’s no doubt MACK continues to redesign how business people create new relationships and establish friendships - regardless of sexuality. MACK aims to be the most reliable business and social network for the Gay and Lesbian Community of South Florida. Thursday, November 12 – Sunday, November 15 – SMART Ride – The SMART Ride began as a dream to create a bicycle event where 100% of pledges raised could go back to the communities to be used for direct services. What makes SMART Ride unique?  The ride is fully supported and designed to allow riders of all degrees of experience to participate. This is a ride not a race. The average rider raises over $2,020. Our participants come from across the State of Florida from as far south as Key West, as far North as Jacksonville, from Tampa to Palm Beach. We attract between 400-500 participants with each event, but we touch thousands more on the road as we travel between cities and towns, and with each donation that is made. Friday, November 13 – SunServe Silver Serve Luncheon – 11:00am – 1:00pm (Second Friday of the Month). ArtServe, 1350 E. Sunrise Blvd. Fort Lauderdale, FL. Every Second Friday of the Month. SunServe is a model 501(c)(3) nonprofit social service agency serving the Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, and Questioning (LGBTQ) community in South Florida. We provide high quality, compassionate, and progressive care for all, including those in financial need, minorities, youth, seniors, families, and those with life-challenging physical or emotional conditions. November 14 & 15 – Equality Florida Gala – Sponsor Appreciation Party on Saturday and Equality Florida Broward Gala on Sunday. Held Sunday, November 15th, at the Panorama Ballroom at Pier Sixty Six in Fort Lauderdale, the Gala is Equality Florida's largest fundraiser of the year. It's a fun, elegant party, and an opportunity to honor important leaders of the LGBT equality movement. Last year we were delighted to honor Jazz Jennings with our Voice For Equality award. Saturday, November 14 – Pride Center Bingo – Second Saturdays of Each Month. 6:30 p.m. doors open; 7:30 p.m. Pride Center, 2040 N. Dixie Hwy, Wilton Manors. Main Hall, Schubert Building. Bingo; proceeds benefit The Pride Center. The cost is $15.00 for the Bingo Package.  There will be a concession stand open and there is a 50/50 raffle. Wednesday, November 18 – The Equality Garden Club – The Equality Park Garden Club meets every 3rd Wednesday of the month except December.  It is a Gay and straight friendly garden club with a variety of plant related events.  Meetings include a guest speaker with a horticultural topic, plant exchange, raffle table, and refreshments. Friday, November 20 – GLBX Artopia– 6:00pm – 10:00pm. NSU Art Museum. RTOPIA, presented by AUDI Fort Lauderdale, is the annual GLBX fundraising event. Expect an evening extravaganza of arts: Culinary Arts, Fashion, Visual Arts, and the Performing Arts in harmony with a wide selection of your favorite foods and beverages! Members $65, Non-Members $75.

Saturday, November 21– Art Walk On Wilton Drive – Held on the 3rd Saturday of each month – 7:00 pm - 10:00 pm. November through April, along the 1.1 mile Wilton Drive, in the Wilton Manors Art and Entertainment District. The official participants include galleries, eclectic stores, cafes, boutiques and upscale restaurants, which will host over 40 local artists. This is a grassroots collaboration bringing culture and business together for the public to enjoy.  Experience Stonewall Gallery, as part of the Art Walk On Wilton Drive. Free admission and festive offerings along Wilton Drive and throughout Wilton Manors. http://artwalkonwiltondrive.com/

Tuesday, December 1 – Mack Power Lunch – 11:30am – 1:30pm at Thasos Greek Taverna, 3330 E. Oakland Park Blvd. Fort Lauderdale.  At the beginning of every Power Lunch we offer approx. 30 minutes to introduce yourself and chat with fellow attendees in a social setting. There may be a very brief presentation by an event sponsor to share insights and industry information. March LGBT Events in Ft. Lauderdale

On this Blog, I will post a highlight of some of the LGBT non-profit and political Events that are going on in Ft. Lauderdale each month, so folks who want to attend can put them on their Calendars. With that in mind, here are the events I want to highlight for March 2013: March Events: Friday, March 1 – Opening Reception for Stonewall National Museum & Archives Exhibit – 6:00pm – 8:00pm Stonewall National Museum & Archives,1300 East Sunrise Boulevard, Fort Lauderdale. Opening reception of photo essay by local media artist Kim Cohane featuring profiles of creative LGBTQ youth. Kim and many any artists depicted will be present.
