On this Blog, I will post a highlight of some of the LGBT non-profit and political events that are going on in Ft. Lauderdale each month, so folks who want to attend can put them on their Calendars.

Thursday, Nov 2 – GLLN Social Luncheon – 11:45am - 1:15pm. Timpano’s, 450 E Las Olas Boulevard, Fort Lauderdale, FL 33301. Monthly luncheons are on the first Thursday of every month. The mission for the gay & lesbian lawyers network is to provide a social network in which gay, lesbian and gay friendly lawyers can develop their practices through friendships, referral relationships and professional development. Friday, Nov 3 – Dean Trantalis for Mayor Campaign Kickoff Event – 5:30pm -7:00pm. C&I Studios, 541 NW1st Ave.-Ft. Lauderdale. Isn’t it about time that Fort Lauderdale has LGBTQ Mayor? Census data shows Fort Lauderdale as the city with the highest concentration of same-sex couple households in the nation. Greater Fort Lauderdale has hundreds of LGBTQ-owned businesses and annually welcomes more than 1.3 million LGBTQ visitors. These tourists spent more than $1.5 billion here last year. Sunday, Nov 5  – An Afternoon with the Task Force    4:30pm – 7:00pm. Please join us for an Afternoon with the Task Force with cocktails and hors d’oeuvres. Executive Director Rea Carey will share updates on the Task Force’s leadership in the resistance against the current administration and how we will persevere to win lived equality for LGBTQ people and their families. Located at the home of Marti Smye and Lisa Madden, in the Las Olas Isles area of Fort Lauderdale. Address will be provided upon RSVP. Monday, Nov 6  – Grand Opening of Equality Florida’s Wilton Manors Office    6:00pm – 7:30pm. 2302 NE 7th Ave. Wilton Manors 33305 (In the Italian American Club building). Join Equality Florida for a ribbon cutting ceremony with the Wilton Manors Commission; enjoy lite bites and bevvies, meet the South Florida team, and check out the new space that will serve as South Florida headquarters for some of the groundbreaking, life-changing Equality Florida programs. The office will serve as a meeting place and internship center, where you can stop by and pick up a new t-shirt, or check out the latest in Equality Florida’s efforts to bring about full equality for the LGBTQ residents of Florida. Wednesday, Nov 8 – Dolphin Democrats Meeting – Second Wednesday of Each Month. 7:00pm. Friday, Nov 10 – The World AIDS Museum and Educational Center presents An Evening with Cleve Jones 8:00pm. Sunshine Cathedral, 1480 SW 9th Ave. Fort Lauderdale. Cleave Jones conceived the AIDS Memorial Quilt at a time when death from AIDS was shameful and hidden. An American folk art form was adapted to celebrate and honor the lives of those who died. Friday, Nov 10 – SunServe Silver Serve Luncheon – 11:00am – 1:00pm (Second Friday of the Month). ArtServe, 1350 E. Sunrise Blvd. Fort Lauderdale, FL. Every Second Friday of the Month. SunServe is a model 501(c)(3) nonprofit social service agency serving the Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, and Questioning (LGBTQ) community in South Florida. We provide high quality, compassionate, and progressive care for all, including those in financial need, minorities, youth, seniors, families, and those with life-challenging physical or emotional conditions. Saturday, Nov 11 – Pride Center Bingo – Second Saturdays of Each Month. 6:30 p.m. doors open; 7:30 p.m. Pride Center, 2040 N. Dixie Hwy, Wilton Manors. Main Hall, Schubert Building. Bingo; proceeds benefit The Pride Center. The cost is $15.00 for the Bingo Package.  There will be a concession stand open and there is a 50/50 raffle. Monday, Nov 13  – Our Fund’s 7th Annual LGBT Leadership Forum  6:00pm. NSU Museum of Art Horvitz Auditorium One East Las Olas Blvd. Fort Lauderdale, FL 3330. The theme is: Florida’s LGBT Future. Our Fund Foundation is gathering a panel of visionary leaders who understand the importance of coalition-buidling to advance LGBT values statewide. Using lessons learned from Colorado in the early 2000s as progressives swept into power in that state, our panel will discuss how Florida can position itself to experience a similar trend. Wednesday, Nov 15 – The Equality Garden Club – The Equality Park Garden Club meets every 3rd Wednesday of the month except December.  It is a Gay and straight friendly garden club with a variety of plant related events.  Meetings include a guest speaker with a horticultural topic, plant exchange, raffle table, and refreshments. On this Blog, I will post a highlight of some of the LGBT non-profit and political Events that are going on in Ft. Lauderdale each month, so folks who want to attend can put them on their Calendars. With that in mind, here are the events I want to highlight for March 2013: March Events: Friday, March 1 – Opening Reception for Stonewall National Museum & Archives Exhibit – 6:00pm – 8:00pm Stonewall National Museum & Archives,1300 East Sunrise Boulevard, Fort Lauderdale. Opening reception of photo essay by local media artist Kim Cohane featuring profiles of creative LGBTQ youth. Kim and many any artists depicted will be present.
